Eight Days Old Son for Sale
Poverty and hunger can make people commit such unbelievable deeds like willing to sell eight days old son. According a Pakistani Urdu newspaper (Khabrain), a sick and unemployed father has decided to sell his child who was born just a week ago to pay off his debt of about $500. The man, Muhammad Hussain, has two other sons, Suhail (12 years) and Usman (6 years). Suhail works at a shop so that his father can pay the loan of the owner. The mother works in others houses as well as sometimes begs for food and money.
Hussain is unable to work due to sickness. One buyer has offered him to give a about 650 square foot piece of land, paying off the debt ($500) and provide food and clothing for the family.
It is a matter of great concern for Muslims of Pakistan in particular and Muslims living around the world that as followers of Islam we have failed to fulfil our obligations and duties towards fellow Muslims to avoid such tragedic incidents forcing parents to sell their new born babies to meet their daily needs.
The President and and Primeminister of Pakistan spend Millions of rupees everyday just to run the kitchens of President and prime minister houses. On the other hand there are people in the same country who cannot even feed themselves everyday. How Parvez Musharaf, the president of Pakistan, is able to sleep in his palace while people are forced to sell their children in the country?
Can we not act collectively as Muslims to avoid such incidents?
